Commodity Charge is a unit charge for the amount of water used. This charge includes water purchases, treatment, pumping, and other costs attributable directly to the amount of water used. (2x standard rate for outside of the District).
Lakeside customers will be assigned one of two rate structures based upon average water usage, but will have the option to choose either one if requested.
Option 1: Tiered Rates
Units $/Unit
Lifeline 0 -12 $2.55
Standard 13-36 $2.64
High Usage 37+ $3.37
The Option 1 rate structure is designed for average and low water use customers (Average use is 40 units bimonthly = 30,000 gallons). Customers who remain in the Lifeline and Standard rate tiers (up to 27,000 gallons) will not be charged the High Usage tier rate. Lifeline Rate (12 units or less, excluding Commercial, Industrial and multi-family dwellings) is applicable only to option 1.

Option 2 is based upon a 10% reduction in usage from calendar year 2008. This option is designed for above average water users. Usage over 90% of the 2008 calendar base year will be subject to a penalty as follows:
0 - 90% of 2008 usage $2.64/unit
Over 90% of 2008 usage $3.37/unit
A letter was sent to each customer with water usage for 2008. You will automatically be placed in Option 1 - Tiered Rates, if the usage on your account averages 40 units or less per billing period. You will be placed in Option 2 - Percentage Reduction, if your average usage is over 40 units, but will have the option to choose either one if requested.
